I finally found a copy of my "President's Letter" from 2014 and I think it bears repeating here.

April 28, 2014

Dear fellow residents of Ingleside Woods Subdivision,

I am the current president of the Ingleside Woods Home Owner’s Association (IWHOA).  My contact information is at the bottom of this letter.  I will be happy to serve until someone else wants this job. Nominations and volunteers are welcome from the floor at our upcoming annual meeting.  I am, however, the sole reason this annual dues statement is late this year, as I am a notorious procrastinator.

The other officers of the Association have been ready for several months to get the dues statements out, but they have been waiting on me in order to include this cover letter.  There are several topics that I would like to discuss and they are, in no particular order, severely delinquent dues ($50 a year is not a burden), cars exceeding the 25 MPH speed limit within our subdivision, dogs barking excessively, cars being parked overnight on the street, boats, trailers and basketball goals, Margo Kenirey’s (our Treasurer) change in duties for our association, our need for two new HOA officers (Vice President and Secretary) and our need for HOA volunteers for the Decorating and Communications committees.

Most of this letter can be summed up by my desire for mutual consideration and respect among our neighbors.  Seek ways to avoid making yourself a nuisance.  Provide no cause for your neighbors to have the slightest irritation or aggravation because of your actions or those of your family, children or guests.

Every property owner in Ingleside Woods is a member of the IWHOA by virtue of their ownership of property in our subdivision.  The only exception is Mr. Hadaway’s property at 3111 Stinsonville Road.  All other homeowners are members and must pay dues, as those properties were sold by the original developer after legal HOA documents were filed at the courthouse.  However, a number of our homeowners seem to be conscientious objectors to the payment of HOA dues.  A list of those past due amounts (including this year’s dues) and the property address associated with those amounts is included in this mailing at my own specific request.  I and I alone made the decision to publish this information to show those who are not contributing.

We need everyone’s dues to be paid timely for the common betterment, enhancement and beautification of our community.  You may have noticed, for example, the recent plantings in the common areas.  Please read the included budget to see how your dues are being used.  Margo put a lot of time into preparing these statements.  If you have any concerns with the usage of your dues, please give me a call.

The speed limit for our community and most every residential area is 25 MPH as established and enforced by Macon-Bibb County.  This does not mean 30 MPH or 35 MPH or 40 MPH.  It means 25 MPH.  There is a dial on every vehicle’s dashboard that indicates present speed.  Please refer frequently to this dial for reference.  You are likely driving faster than you think.  Please let me know if I am wrong.

I’m sure that speeders feel that their lives, needs, schedules and appointments are more important than their neighbors’ own sense of well being and safety.  Any driver exceeding residential speed limits is oblivious, inconsiderate and dangerous.  Can I share an event to illustrate my point?

I don’t know if you’ve ever attended a visitation for a 5 year old boy killed by his speeding, inattentive neighbor.  I have.  The little boy was dressed in his favorite Atlanta Braves t-shirt and baseball cap.  His parents were inconsolable.  I lacked the guts to attend the little boy’s funeral.

Exactly how important is it that you arrive at your destination one to several minutes quicker?  Is it worth the life of a child?  Could you not just leave for your destination one or several minutes sooner and then drive in a lawful, sane, rational and respectful manner?  And it is not just our subdivision that has a 25MPH speed limit.  Most streets leading to our subdivision also have a 25 MPH speed limit and there are 4, 5 and 6 year old boys and girls who love their families living among us and all around us.  Please share this with all your drivers.

Barking dogs are a ‘pet’ peeve of mine as I believe that companion animals belong inside the house with their people most all the time.  They should not be left outside predominately or continuously so that they become a nuisance to your neighbors.  Dogs bark.  I get it.  But, they would bark less if they were inside your home where they can serve their primary function as your companion animal.  Dogs and cats are not yard ornaments and deserve the companionship of their responsible owners out of the elements of rain, cold and heat.  If you live near an irresponsible pet owner, please contact the Sheriff’s Department.

As a reminder from our restrictive covenants (see http://inglesidewoods.blogspot.com/) “Section 6(c.) Prohibited Uses: No trailer, camper, motor home, boat, boat trailer, jet ski…, race cars, school or other buses, trucks or commercial vehicle over one ton capacity or tractor (other than a small garden tractor), shall be permitted on any lot for any purpose unless housed in a total enclosure (i.e., 4 walls and a roof) screening it from view from any street right of way and all adjacent property.  Neither shall any vehicle or equipment be kept, stored or parked for more than eight (8) hours on any street right of way within said development or on any lot contained therein.  Section 14(f.) Miscellaneous: No basketball goal nor backstop shall be placed between the house and the street or streets on which the house abuts.”

Margo Kenirey has long been a faithful supporter of IWHOA with her time and talents as our Treasurer.  Since my knowing her and having first hand knowledge of the time she invests in our HOA, I have felt that she should be on the HOA payroll.  She refuses to accept any compensation.  She has devoted countless hours to faithfully record and deposit our dues, timely pay the bills of the HOA and present accurate and timely invoices and spreadsheets for our members, budgets and bank accounts.

Margo has requested that she be allowed to step into the background as a non-voting member of our group of officers while continuing to faithfully maintain our records and bank accounts. Margo has asked that we appoint another officer to assume her current duties as a voting officer for our association.  Margo will continue to be our Treasurer and for this I am extremely grateful.  Also, Rachel Fortuna has submitted her resignation as our Secretary as they will be moving from our subdivision.  I am grateful for Rachel’s service to our organization and their family will be greatly missed in our community.  Thus, we are now accepting nominations and volunteers for the positions of Vice President and Secretary of the IWHOA.

We are also accepting nominations and volunteers for the Decorating and Communications committees.   Decorating sees that our seasonal and holiday decorations at the front entrance and common areas are displayed.  Communications is in charge of the IWHOA blog (see above link), IWHOA facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/301825423905/) and twitter (https://twitter.com/inglesidewoods).  Please choose to invest a little of your time for the betterment of our community.

With that being said, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the Landscaping Committee consisting of Art Butler, Neila Young and Garnell Horwitz and to the Welcoming Committee consisting of Lily Bradley and Michelle Stanley for all of their evident hard work and tireless efforts on our behalf.

Our annual meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3rd from 6pm sharp to 7pm sharp in Fickling & Company building on Riverside Drive.  Park in the back parking lot and come in the back door.  As we will not have a lot of time to take and respond to individual questions or concerns from the floor, please send all your questions and concerns to us prior to the meeting.  You can do this by mailing them to Ingleside Woods HOA, P.O. Box 7234, Macon, GA 31209 or by email at inglesidewoods@gmail.com.  A copy of your timely questions and our response will be provided to everyone during the meeting.  This information will also be posted to our blog at http://inglesidewoods.blogspot.com/ ,where the IWHOA budget, expense itemizations, By Laws and Restrictive Covenants may also be viewed.  Tenants and owners must comply with all Restrictive Covenants.

If you find this letter politically incorrect, offensive, unpleasant or just condescending, please come to our annual meeting and elect a better president.  My wife and I would appreciate that very much.  Until that time, please feel free to contact me at any time for any HOA need or concern that you might have.

Sincerely,

David J. Griffin
